Important: Beginning Fall semester, 2008, Beginning Japanese I (JAPN 101) will be open to freshmen and sophomores only. This is in accordance with a new rule for all languages in the Arabic and Asian Languages Office. Places that are not taken by freshmen and sophomores will be open to upper classmen and graduate students. However, JAPN 101 and 102 will be offered this summer and will be open to all.
Summer Japanese courses: Beginning Japanese I and II (JAPN 101 and 102), and a new "Functional Japanese: History and Culture" course will be offered in Summer 1 and 2 sessions beginning this year. Students who take both 101 and 102 in the summer will be able to join JAPN 201 in the Fall. The only prerequisite for the new Functional Japanese course is the ability to read Hiragana. Students will not be able to substitute Functional Japanese for JAPN 101 or 102; however, it will count toward a minor in Asian Studies.
If you have any questions about the Japanese program, contact George Adams (georgeadams@tamu.edu).
