Employment Opportunities

AALO hires student workers who can do grading and/or serve as conversation partners.

• Graders are normally asked to grade student homework assignments, quizzes, tests, finals, projects, etc., based on criteria set forth by the course instructor.
• Conversation partners are expected to meet with individuals or groups of students to practice speaking the language. They also provide help and assistance to the language learners as needed,

In order to be considered for the position of a grader and/or conversation partner in Arabic, Chinese or Japanese, the applicant needs to have advanced proficiency in the language (i.e., be able to speak, read and write at the advanced level). International students wishing to apply for these positions need to provide employment eligibility and obtain the proper work authorization forms in order to be hired.

Once hired, and depending on the needs of the course instructor, graders and conversation partners can work up to 20 hours per week. Graders and conversation partners are paid at an hourly rate and are hired for one semester at a time. Hiring is renewable contingent upon funding availability and performance.
