Aggies at Model Arab League

On February 6-8, 2009, 12 Arabic Language students from Texas A&M University competed in the Model Arab League at the University of  St. Thomas in Houston. The A&M students represented Qatar and Syria. One of the two delegates won outstanding overall delegation (Syria), and A&M delegations were selected as outstanding in three of the five Councils with many honorable mentions. Sophomore INTS major, Andrew Roblyer was given a special award for his excellent work throughout the MAL, and his peers from all participating schools unanimously elected him as Secretary General for next year's MAL.

Past Events

Thanks to a grant from the Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts, the Arabic and Asian Language Office hosted  cultural events in the fall of 2008.

Students who took Japanese classes had a chance to listen to a lecture and concert conducted by the Japanese artist Yoko Hiraoka. In this concert and lecture, Ms. Hiraoka  performed portions of Tale of Heike of medieval Japan.

Students taking Arabic classes had a chance to listen to and see samples of the art work of the master calligrapher and visual artist, Dr. Huda Totonji (http://www.huda-art.com) on October 7, 2008. Totonji visited the Arabic classes and delivered a lecture to the students and faculty in the Stark Gallery.
